Made for moms

Unwine-d update: I did get some painting done tonight. Not much, just another coat of white on the already primed boards. The “watching paint dry” part just takes forever and you can’t move on until it is done. So once the painting for the evening was done, Marcus and I enjoyed a bottle of Duckhorn Paraduxx. Highly recommend.

Earlier today at the office something pretty fabulous happened. Our department director was given a ‘thank you for your business’ gift. And this gift just so happened to be warm chocolate chip cookies baked just an hour earlier and delivered in the cutest pseudo pizza box to her door. How I have never heard of this glorious company I don’t know, but today was the day I was introduced to Tank Goodness. This is stuff dreams are made of people. Just out of the oven gooey cookies with the option of sending a gallon of milk along too – I must be dreaming! I highly recommend you sending them to someone who could use a little baked lovin’!

Tomorrow is my future mother-in-law’s birthday and we are all gathering for a family dinner at Terrace Hill. Of course she has asked for everyone not to bring gifts, but in my defense, I already had it in advance of her request. So she’s getting it anyway.

Got a mom-in-law and need a gift? I love these:

Board with painting update: Wow, I really must dislike painting these boards because I totally avoided working on them tonight. All it took was a call from my sisters after work letting me know that they were both at our parents’ house for dinner. Oh, and the baby was there too. What can I say, I’m easily swayed. But I vow tomorrow night I am coming home right after work to get going on them!

Local joint plug: My co-workers and I hit up Bagni di Lucca today for lunch, and I just can’t get over how good their veggie pizza is. It rocks my world!

But I did pick up my dress for our stock the cellar couples shower this weekend. Check it out – swanky, eh?

Satin dress

I might be slightly overdressed, but it's MY shower - so who cares!

And speaking of the stock the cellar couples shower that is taking place on Saturday night – tomorrow I need to wrap the gift we picked up for the host and hostess (Marcus’ brother and sister-in-law). I can’t show the gifts, but I will say that since it is a wine and champagne themed gathering, I think it’s appropriate to keep the present in line with the theme.

I love these gift ideas for the wine lover in your life.

Wine and dine plate

Crate&Barrel, Wine and dine plate, $8.95

Wine cork tray kit

Red Envelope, Wine cork tray kit, $39.95

Recycled wine bottle platter

Board with painting

One for one update: Instead of partaking in TOMS shoes’ One Day Without Shoes campaign, I purchased my own pair of TOMS in support of their movement. My sister and I headed over to Active Endeavors to pick up a pair only to find out that they no longer carried the line. We were directed then to Journeys. Once inside the store we were surprised to see how many different styles they carried. Morgan ended up going with these. And here are mine:

Tomorrow I am continuing to work on the boards for the bags set. It’s a bit of a process, but hopefully they will turn out okay. Check out these different sets:

One for one

Striped sips update: The order is in for 200 yellow and white striped paper straws. I found these gems via a Google search that led me to the St. Paul store, Bibelot.

Bibelot, Yellow/white striped paper straws, $4.50 for 25

I got a phone call from my mom today saying that a package had arrived at their house for me. After she told me where it was from (Joseph’s Jewelers) I cancelled my post-work plans to head straight over there. It was a wedding gift from a couple who are unable to attend the festivities. It is a beautifully ornate serving and condiment set by Mary Jurek.

I’ve been wanting to do this forever, but am finally getting around to it because my sister, Morgan, asked me if I wanted to come along with her to purchase our first pair of TOMS. And it just so happens that tomorrow is their 4th annual One Day Without Shoes. After coming across these shoes in various different blogs, I decided I wanted to know more. Here is what TOMS shoes is all about via their site:

“TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we’re all about. The TOMS mission transforms our customers into benefactors, which allows us to grow a truly sustainable business rather than depending on fundraising for support.”

Tomorrow, Morgan and I are heading to our local TOMS dealer, Active Endeavors, to pick out our pairs, and in turn, buy a pair for someone in need.

Striped sips

Honeymoon hottie update: Where did the weekend go?! As far as I’m concerned the weather can just stay like this from here on out. Well, minus the wind of course. While Marcus was out of town for his bachelor weekend festivities, I worked Karl pretty hard with four walks in 48 hours. As I type he is at the bottom of the bed passed out. One of those walks was with the bean (Sidney) and my sister. She loved it! When I wasn’t walking about the town, I spent some time in the garage working on the bag game sets. This weekend I primed both sets and painted them with a base coat of white high gloss paint. Things are taking shape, and I’m hoping to get some time sometime this week to continue the process.

The bean loved the walk!

Primed and painted.

A little afternoon photo shoot with my son Karl.

On tomorrow’s list of things to do is to place an order for paper straws for our vodka lemonades at the wedding reception. I’ve been seeing these and swizzle sticks all over the wedding blogosphere.

Honeymoon hottie

Memories of the way we were update: Foto Friday was a success and so was April Fools Day. We totally got one of my co-workers good! He always leaves his keys in his door knob throughout the day, so while he was at a meeting this afternoon we took them and moved his car to another parking lot on campus. It was a genius prank.

Can't wait until we do the awkward years...

Now that warmer weather is on the way and we are under 60 days until the wedding I am starting to think about my honeymoon attire. What? I’m planning for the wedding, what makes you think I wouldn’t plan for honeymoon in its entirety. I’m thinking J.Crew meets nautical in Nantucket with pops of color. Here is my honeymoon outfits inspiration:

Memories of the way we were

Always on target update: Man, I love that store. I went in, got what I was looking for and of course, found something else I thought I needed.

Target goods

Oh Target, you just GET me.

So last Friday we had a marketing and communications outing and we were on the topic of home economics class and how some of my co-workers had sewn their own clothes. And from that we got on the topic of old school photo days. You know, where you show up in your best outfit with your hair all done up and hope that you still look that good by the time that your photo session rolls around. Which you never did.

So in honor of our old school photo Friday tomorrow, here are a few gems from my younger years.

That dress - WOOF!

This was during my dancer pose phase.

So classy with my cousin Amber.

Always on Target

Get with the program update: The programs are still a work in process and once everything is finalized I will have to get them approved by the ceremony musician as well as the church wedding coordinator. I am planning on putting a parking map on the back cover of the programs so that guests know where they are to park at the reception along with where they are to enter the grounds. But here is what they’ll look like…

My Wedding Ceremony program

Not looking forward to the printing, cutting, folding and ribbon tying part...

I have long been a fan of Target for many reasons, but within the past five years they have really stepped it up a notch with their many collection collaborations with different designers and companies. Recently they released the best of the best dresses from past GO International collections which are quickly flying off the racks.

Tomorrow I am going to hit up the bullseye for some shoes from the Dolce Vita for Target line. They have some super cute wedges that I am dying to get my hands on. The hunt is on…

Deciding between the two styles - both are $29.99

Get with the program

April showers bring May flowers update: I started on some of the decor for the wedding shower brunch taking place at the end of April. I saw this idea on a wedding blog although I can’t remember which one. The colors of this shower are going to be black, white, yellow and green. I will string this up with some fun green gingham and yellow polka dot ribbons and hang it up from the mantle of the fireplace.

She sure did.

Now that we are 60 days away from the big event, things are picking up with regards to wedding DIYs that still need to be accomplished. I finally completed all of the table tent cards with their specific Iowa counties.

Done and done.

Up next is finishing up the ceremony program. I have decided to go with something simpler (which I will show you tomorrow after a few tweaks) instead of complex like these:

April showers bring May flowers

Monday, Monday Update: I got home tonight from work and the gym and I walk in on Marcus preparing our dinner – freshly caught from his recent trip to the Rainbow Trout Ranch in Rockbridge, MO.

Prepped. Cooked. Enjoyed.

I am gearing up for bridal shower season that’ll be starting here soon. We are lucky enough to be having three different wedding showers. Two of them are couples showers and the other is your typical ladies bridal shower. My mom is hosting the ladies only brunch at her house and I have asked if it’d be okay for the bride to do some of the decorating. If you are hosting a bridal shower any time soon, I suggest you pop over to one of my recent finds, Hostess with the Mostess blog for great decorating tips.

Here are a few of my faves:
