Line by line

Baby boi update: Oh great, another weekend in the books. Man, these past few have been just flyin’ by. Probably because I have NOTHING to do…oh wait, yes I do. Here was my weekend, in what other way, a collage.

weekend events

Baby shower, boys changing diapers on dolls, the Bean, 300 ceremony programs, my new monogram, free DSM symphony

With under two weeks to go, we are headed for the wedding whirlwind. Tomorrow I will be finalizing my master timeline getting it ready to be released to the masses. Ok, so maybe just released to the wedding party and a few vendors. But it’s still a big deal. I want to make sure things are uber-organized now so that the week of the wedding there are no massive surprises. The more people are informed, the better in my book. Granted, I can’t make anyone actually read the thing, but dang I’ll sure try!

Baby boi

Bye, bye stye update: I was so stye-crazed yesterday that I forgot to mention that Marcus swung by Joseph’s Jewelers yesterday to pick up our wedding bands. YIPPEE! When I met up with him after work he had already busted his out and was wearing it around  – trying to get a feel for it. He’s a little jealous that I’ve gotten to wear my engagement ring for over a year now pronouncing to everyone that I’m getting married. He thinks guys get the shaft – that because they don’t have a ring on (or some other identifiable object) that they don’t get all the extra attention. Sounds like something a youngest child would say, right?! Well honey, the wait is almost over and in two short weeks you’ll get to walk around wearing that ring loud and proud!

Tonight we met up with my parents after work at Splash for a few happy hour cocktails and oysters on the half shell. I highly encourage you to visit. Even if you don’t like oysters, they have plenty of other $5 appetizers to choose from, as well as a $5 happy hour cocktail menu.

Tomorrow morning I will make the trek over to my parents house again to continue working on wedding stuff. I’m trying to get as much done this weekend and humanly possible so that next weekend isn’t so jam-packed full of stress. We will be finishing up the ceremony programs and packing up all the wedding decor that I have on hand that will need to be transported to Terrace Hill for set up. On top of that, I need to create the seating arrangement poster that will be set up on an easel for guest to view, along with the escort cards that’ll need to be tied on to all of the honey jars. Not sure there are enough hours in the day!

On top of all that, Marcus and I have a baby shower to attend tomorrow afternoon in Grimes. They are first time parents and are having a little boy in a little less than a month. Actually, the husband is one of our ushers for the wedding and we are just hoping that the baby waits to come until after the nuptials.

I picked up something for the little tyke off of their Babies R Us registry, but if you are into getting something personalized or different from the typical baby gift check out The Corner Stork. These are a few of my absolute favorite baby boy gifts they feature:

Bye, bye stye

Noise notes update: Tonight we traipsed around south of Grand to reach out to the neighbor-inos and if they weren’t there we left them cute little “noise notes”. We actually only talked to two homeowners and ended up leaving notes for the rest. This was my favorite house that we stopped at. L-O-V-E the bold door color choice!

Orange door

Throughout the entire wedding process I have had an elevated level of stress, which I figure is pretty common in brides especially if they are planning every last detail. But what I wasn’t prepared for was getting my very first stye a couple of days ago, and just two weeks before our big day. I’m trying not to freak out and I have been doing all sorts of self-doctoring today. Guess that’s just another thing to add to the prayer list. You can find me applying warm, wet compresses 3-6 times a day until it goes away. Has anyone else had one? Any other home remedies you’d suggest for a desperate bride?

Race to the finish update: Didn’t get much accomplished tonight because Marcus and I decided to have an impromptu date night. And what did we do on our sporadic night out? Oh, you know, hit up Nick’s Bar & Grill and then strolled down the aisles of Hy-Vee for groceries. It’s the small things, right?

Nicks Bar and Grill

I had the cajun cream penne with blackened chicken and he had the pork shank.

I got a call from our DJ service the other day and the owner informed us that he had DJ’d a wedding reception last weekend at an outdoor venue and a disgruntled neighbor had called the cops on them. Inside my head I was saying “don’t panic, don’t panic.” He was calling all of his outdoor venue brides to just give them a heads up so that they could go around to their neighbors and give them a heads up. Which is exactly what Marcus and I had planned on doing anyway. So tomorrow we will walk around to the neighboring houses and knock on some doors. I have also made a couple of “noise notes” as I like to call them, to leave on people’s door knobs should they not be there.

Sorry, we party.

I’ll let you know how it goes! Hopefully we have no major objections.

Race to the finish

Best mom ever update: Ok peeps, soooo sorry for the “no posts”. Here’s the story (of course there’s a story). I was over at my parents’ house this weekend doing all sorts of wedding work (more on that later) and I packed up my computer without my power cord. This wouldn’t be that big of a deal if I didn’t have an old school MacBook who’s battery life is shot and needs to be plugged-in in order to function for more than two seconds. So there went the Sunday night blog.

Yesterday, I was planning on going over my parents’ house after work, but they said they were going to be stopping by our house later on and that they would bring the cord. Well, they showed up, but with the wrong white cord in hand. And the Monday blog was out the window. So…here we are.

Well, let’s chat about the weekend a little bit. I started off my weekend at the downtown farmer’s market. I highly suggest you check it out at some point this summer. It is one of my favorite things to do in Des Moines. Later on in the afternoon we had tea at Terrace Hill for Mother’s Day and it was very special for me. I got to sit down with both my mom and my future mother-in-law at the same time to celebrate both of them. The theme of the tea was antique jewelery. Check out some of the gems – talk about jaw droppers!

Mothers Day weekend

Sunday rolled around and I went to mom and dad’s for a little homemade breakfast and to work on the wedding ceremony programs a bit more. While I was on my last batch of the 300 programs I realized I misspelled a word on the back of it. Total bummer! So, I had to redo them all. Bleh! After that Marcus and I were off to Centro for lunch with his family to celebrate the mom’s. Who doesn’t love bellinis?

Mothers Day weekend 2It’s crunch time people! We are 18 short days away from the walk down the aisle and I’ve been going non-stop to try to get everything taken care of. Tomorrow we are meeting with our priest to finalize everything, and in the evening I will be printing the inside portion of our ceremony program on fabulous curry yellow paper. It is also time to finalize the guest list and seating arrangements. Who’s sitting with who?

Best mom ever

Missoni madness update: TGIF! Even though my weekend is full, it’s still nice that it’s here. Tonight I finished up my set of my cornhole boards, printed off ceremony program covers and updated our table assignments all while sipping some chilled white wine. All in all, I’d say it was a productive Friday evening.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and man, does my mom deserve it! She has been my right hand woman throughout this whole wedding planning process. I’m not quite sure I could’ve gotten it all done without her. From the cutting to the measuring to the sewing – she has gone out of her way to add special (homemade) touches for our wedding.

Linda Haas

I love you mom!

So instead of something to do tomorrow, I am going to plan on spending the entire weekend celebrating my mom and my future mother-in-law and I suggest you do the same.

Missoni madness

Uno mas, por favor update: Well, I didn’t have Mexican food today but I did have a chance to enjoy a cerveza while I did some printing over at my parents house. While I wasn’t printing we were going over the seating arrangement and figuring out who is sitting at what table, and let me tell you, this is a painstaking process and we aren’t through with it yet. I got my side settled and this weekend I’m going over Marcus’ side with his mom. Hopefully we can have this whole deal resolved and set in stone (haha, yea right!) by Monday morning. Wishful thinking, right?

By now you know that I am a sucker for high-low end collaborations, and I about fell out of my chair yesterday when I came across this tweet:

Seriously folks, block out your day (September 13) because this line is going to be OUT OF CONTROL. It’s supposedly going to be Target’s largest collab collection to date with over 400 pieces in men’s, women’s, kids’ and housewares. I get goosebumps just thinking about it – Missoni sheets, dinner plates and a wrap sweater at discount prices? DY-ing.

Uno mas por favor

Sayin’ my prayers update: Slipped the gown on with no problems – saweet! My sister Marissa was there to practice getting me in and securing the bustle. I am still unsure what my “something borrowed” will be, and am in need of some ideas. Since I can’t show you any pictures of me in the dress, I decided to snap this pic.

Eat your heart out Kate Middleton!

The title of this blog is a phrase that anyone should know if they are planning a trip across the border or are heading to their local mexican restaurant. In honor of tomorrow, Cinco de Mayo, I thought now would be a good time to teach my loyal readers a little Spanish. The translation is “one more, please”.

Who’s ready for some guac, queso and a cerveza and/or margarita?! I know I am and will probably be tipping back a Corona while I continue to print my ceremony programs tomorrow evening. The fun continues…

Sayin’ my prayers

Being catered to update: The meeting with Christiani’s was great and I think we are good to go for the wedding day. There are always variables out of your control when you decide to have an outdoor wedding in the month of May in Iowa, but we are willing to take our chances. I have been saying daily prayers for sunny skies and 75 degrees, maybe you could join in too?

Wedding forecast

A bride can dream, right?

On the ‘ol to do list tomorrow – my FINAL DRESS FITTING! Well, at least I hope it is. Keep in mind I have not put my wedding dress on since mid-March. I can tell you that my fingers are crossed that I’ve “maintained” during the past month or so, and that I can just shimmy on into my gown tomorrow evening. Wish me luck!

Being catered to

Numbers game update: More (late) RSVPs came in today, and the updated numbers are: 301 possible guests with just 15 people still yet to RSVP. We’re gettin’ there! Slowly but surely. I went over to my parents house tonight to continue working on the ceremony programs, and I truly must be losing my mind because I did not bring my computer along with me. This final month until the wedding and all the stress that goes along with finishing things up is making me loopy. While at their house I got to see this little cutie-pie though!

Tomorrow I have another site review at our “venue” with our caterer, Christiani’s. We just want to go over everything and make sure we are all set for the big day. I, for one, have loved working with them throughout the past months. They have years of experience and it shows. I’m most looking forward to the appetizer Prima Donna meat and cheese spread that we are going to be having.
