Minne(sota) break

This past weekend I managed to find some time to pop by my sister & brother-in-law’s house to pick some fresh apples from their huge fruit bearing tree.

freshly picked apples

They are absolutely delicious (I can attest as I’ve already made quite the dent in the inventory), but I’m hoping to make something amazing with them. Got any good apple recipes to share?

In lieu of a babymoon, I’m hitting the open road this weekend with my mom and sisters for our annual girls weekend. We are heading back to Minneapolis because we just really love the store options and cooler temps. I have a feeling that this year I will be shopping for the little guy more than myself, but I am just fine with that.

Here are a few items for Baby B that I have my eye on and can be found on our trip north:

Happy hunting

I packed so much into this past weekend that I’m still playing catch up! The baby shower on Saturday was absolutely beautiful. Our family and friends truly showered us with love and so many darling gifts and we are so grateful!

No rest for me, as Sunday we celebrated the Bean’s 3rd birthday with a superhero party. Everything turned out darling and the kiddos looked so cute running around with their masks and capes on!

Usually, this time of year I consider myself a hunting widow. Even with Baby B arriving shortly, I assume I will be spending a good deal of time nesting by myself while my husband de-scents himself and piles on layers of camouflage to head out to a tree stand.

While his Under Armour gear serves a particular purpose, I can’t help but notice the amount of fashionistas busting out the camo this season as well.

Shower power

I am ready for the weekend – how about you?! Here is a little sneak peek of Super Sid’s partyware that I put together for the big bash this Sunday.

Tomorrow is our first baby shower and I can not wait! Earlier today I helped the grandmas out a little bit by setting up and I am so excited to spend the morning brunching with a bunch of ladies who are just as excited to meet Baby B as we are!

I know I’m not really supposed to be doing anything for the shower, but I just couldn’t help but whip up a quick little favor for all of our guests. I made these cookies for the Fourth of July this year, and they were such a hit that I thought they’d be the perfect tasty to-go treat as our loved ones leave the house.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane

This weekend truly felt like fall because I spent most of it getting into the spirit of the season.

Fall has arrived

I started off one of my recent mornings trying out a new smoothie recipe and it was quite lovely! I can’t get enough pumpkin – can you?

Pumpkin spice smoothie[a tasty pumpkin treat for breakfast]

For lunch today a few of us headed down to the East Village to taste items from around the globe at the opening day of the World Food & Music Festival.

World Food Festival[I went with the El Salvadoran pupusa]

Shortly after we found out I was pregnant I put together a list of things to do ‘before baby.’ The bathroom remodels were a big to-do and this week two other items got checked off the list: air duct and carpet cleaning. As items are disappearing from the list, it is an alarming reminder of how close we are getting to baby b’s appearance!

Who knows what the weekend will hold, but I have a feeling I’ll be spending it in leggings and boots. The low for tonight is supposed to be 48 degrees! Have a great weekend and enjoy the last official day of summer tomorrow.

Pumpkin-y goodness continues

Fall was definitely in the air this past weekend and I took full advantage of it by spending as much time as possible outdoors.

After making a batch of pumpkin banana muffins last week, I was left with half a can of pumpkin and didn’t just want to toss it. Into the fridge it went and now I finally know what to do with it. I plan on making this easy pumpkin spice smoothie (via the Lululemon blog) for breakfast tomorrow. I’m officially obsessed with fall!

Let the good times roll

I’m not quite sure where this week went, but I’ll take it! On Wednesday I had my glucose testing done at my check-up. It wasn’t much fun, so I hope all is well because I definitely don’t want to go back and do the three-hour test. They said no news is good news, and I have yet to hear back from them. Fingers crossed.

Baby B also received his first registry gift this week and it came all the way from my cousin and her husband from Down Under. Those two are so sweet!

I managed to find a little time late last night to whip up the pumpkin banana muffins and I have to admit, they weren’t exactly a culinary triumph. But, in true pregnant gal fashion, I just drizzled a little cream cheese frosting on top and voila – delicious.

Tomorrow marks one of my favorite days of the year – it’s Beaverdale Fall Festival time! We will be continuing the tradition of viewing the parade from our friends’ front lawn whilst enjoying plenty of bagels, donut holes and mimosas. Well, just OJ for the little guy and me. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Spice it up

I crammed so much into this past weekend that it is much easier for me to share it via photos:

early Holiday spirit[a little early holiday spirit poppin’ up at the mall]

What is a pregnant gal to do when she has a freezer bag full of uber ripe bananas and a craving for all things pumpkin? Find a recipe to combine both and make it ASAP.

Even the 100+ degree weather today can’t stop me from ushering in fall. I busted out the muffin tins and plan to whip up these hybrid pumpkin banana treats this week. Baby B is already jumping (and kicking) with excitement.

Morgie’s fall faves

It is nice when a three-day weekend actually feels like three whole days. While I kept pretty busy, I also managed a little downtime too.

Lakehouse Labor Day 2013Lakehouse Labor Day 2013[beautiful weekend at the lake house]

Little ladies eating breakfast[little ladies eating breakfast]

PSL for life[my first pumpkin spice latte of the season]

Karl's sleepy[Karl loved being lazy this weekend too]

Lazy Labor Day breakfast in bed[Labor Day morning breakfast in bed]

Today I thought I’d give a great big shout-out to my little sis, Morgan, who is celebrating her day of birth! And what better way to do such a thing then by having (ahem, making) her write a blog post of her own 🙂 Take it away Morgie!

Listen, I’m all for lounging at the pool with an iced cold bevie and a good book in hand, but this weather is just ridiculous. As soon as PSL (pumpkin spiced lattes, of course) are available at S-Bux and there are Halloween decorations in stores, I need fall to officially be here. It’s my favorite time of year – pumpkin everything, the best holidays, cozy sweaters and boots & plenty of crisp morning walks and drives to enjoy the changing of the leaves.

To will the cooler air just a little bit faster, I’ve been compiling some of my fall favorites in fashion, beauty & music. Take a peek:

MorganFallFavesBlog

FASHION: You really only need 3 new items every season: a pair of shoes, a purse & something that you know you shouldn’t buy but will somehow end up in your closet anyway. These things happen. Accept it.
1. The perfect pair of black pumps
2. This just seems like an obvious choice
3. Target/designer collabs are everything. Hoping I can snag this beaut before it flies off the shelves (FYI I’m not opposed to an elbow or two to make this happen)

BEAUTY: Keep. It. Simple.
1. A beauty staple, apparently. Can’t believe I haven’t purchased it yet. Changing that ASAP
2. Keep that skin looking radiant throughout the chillier months with this
3. May have already purchased this (in ‘Aria’) and I may need to get it in every color

MUSIC: A few artists that have been on repeat the past few weeks – some old, some new.
1. Bastille: you probably know ‘Pompeii’ but check out ‘Bad Blood (Live Piano Version)’ and ‘Flaws (Live Acoustic Version)’.
2. Otis Redding: anything and everything. All the time. Favorites include ‘Pain in My Heart’, ‘These Arms Of Mine’ and ‘I’ve Been Loving You Too Long’ and…you get the picture.
3. Mumford & Sons: seeing them in 16 days, 31 minutes and 15 seconds…but who’s counting? ‘After The Storm’ will forever be my favorite.

Little labor ahead

I really love how Super Sid’s invites turned out: simple and perfect for the superhero theme.

SuperSid

I don’t know about you, but I’m quite excited about the three-day holiday weekend ahead. Football season officially kicks off tomorrow (although it doesn’t feel like it) and a trip to the lake and lounging are in my very near future.

Since it’s Friday and my brain power is limited, I’ve put together a list of my Labor Day essentials for you to enjoy. And because he’s always on my mind, I had to add a few cute cooler weather items I’ve been obsessed with lately for Baby B 🙂  Now all you (and I) need to do is rest and relax.
