BFF is here

Troublesome teeth update: I had my follow up the other day and I am in the clear, and the appointment only took 10 minutes. Gotta love that!

When I woke up this morning to take Karl out, I was thankful for two things: fall weather and the fact that it was Friday. This morning went by fast because I had a much anticipated lunch to look forward to – Zombie Burger. All I can say is, believe the hype. I suggest the Planet Terror.

After work I stopped home only to snag Marcus who just got back from D.C. to head over to Taki for a special birthday dinner for little Lexi. Her first birthday is actually next week but since the in-laws will be out of town for it we decided to do the family dinner tonight. I’m still full from my yakisoba and the few pieces of sushi that I had. Oh, and I can’t forget about that chocolate cupcake that I devoured from Carefree Patisserie.

Happy birthday Lexi!!!

One of my favorite days of the year is tomorrow – Beaverdale Fall Festival day. My family gets up early to make a run to Panera for bagels and then we head to the hill. The hill belongs to some family friends of ours and it is located along the parade route. We have been congregating there for as long as I can remember. Only now, we are more interested in the mimosas in hand instead of the candy being thrown. So if you are looking for something to do tomorrow – you know what I recommend.

Troublesome teeth

It’s chili out there update: What a pleasant surprise. I knew we were going to be enjoying some deer chili tonight, but I didn’t know we were going to be sharing. Marcus invited some of our friends over for a little impromptu gathering at our house tonight. So, being the nerd that I am, I made a quick run to Wal-Mart over lunch to grab some essentials: Fall scented candles and goodies to mix up a batch of Candy Corn mix. We are in full autumn swing now!

Deer chili

Seeing little Miss Mia put on my heels was priceless!

I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t dreading tomorrow a little bit. Why? Because tomorrow I have my one year check-up for my root canal. Let’s just say I wasn’t the best patient the first time around, so the thought of going back to that place and sitting in that chair is freaking me out a bit. I just hope that everything is healing fine and that I never have to go through it again!

It’s chili out there

The moment we’ve waited for update: God bless all moms, but especially mine today. With a 11-month baby in tow, she ventured out to five (yes, FIVE) Targets in search of the Missoni for Target items we (myself and sisters) coveted the most. Due to her unbelievable efforts, I was able to get my top three items and then some! I made a quick trip out to meet her over my lunch hour today and was amazed at how much was already gone from the shelves. And good luck if you wanted to find stuff online today, the Target site was down most of the day due to Missoni Madness. I did a quick check on eBay to see if anything was up yet and was SHOCKED at what items were going for!

After all of this Missoni-ing I’m really looking forward to spending some time with my husband tomorrow. He is treating me to some deer chili since the word on the street is that it might possibly drop into the 30s tomorrow night. I LOVE FALL!

The moment we’ve waited for…

America the Beautiful update: Starting out the week with a new car, refinanced mortgage and an empty laundry basket – not bad! Well, minus the fact that we desperately need to get to the grocery store. This is what we ended up having for dinner tonight.

Kid dinner

Marcus referred to it as "our kid dinner."

Tomorrow is the big day – the one I’ve talked about numerous times. You know, the launch of the Missoni for Target line. I can’t believe they didn’t consult me on when the line was going to finally be in stores, because Tuesdays don’t really work for me. Target doesn’t open until 8 a.m. and since I have to be at work at that exact time, I might have to take a shopping lunch tomorrow. I hope my three ‘must have’ items are still on the racks when I get there!

America the Beautiful

Go Hawks update: Game day didn’t go as planned, but I still had a good time spending time with the in-laws!

Iowa Superbowl

Iowa vs. Iowa State, or as Adrianne refers to it, the Iowa Super Bowl.

I also managed to find some time to hang with the Bean for a little bit. She’s teething and this seems to help, so why not!

Bean with Icee

"This feels much better."

We also spent some time today reliving and remembering those who were lost 10 years ago in the tragic events of 9/11. It doesn’t seem like that long ago, but after watching a few documentaries today the wounds from the event still feel tender. My thoughts and prayers go out to the men and women who lost their lives that day and for their families who now live on without their loved ones. God bless those heroes who ran towards and into the Twin Towers as everyone was trying to escape. And God bless America.

Go Hawks!

Cupcakes for the Bean update: Today was quite the day.

SidsBdayInvites

The Bean's birthday invites were finalized.

Mollydooker

We got to meet Sparky Marquis of Mollydooker Wines at a WineStyles tasting event.

New car

And last, but not least, I got a NEW CAR! Finally!

Such a full day and tomorrow will be no different because we are hitting the road bright and early to head to Ames for the big showdown – Iowa vs. Iowa State. I’m predicting a  big Hawkeye victory! “In heaven there is no beer….”

Cupcakes for the Bean

Creating ambiance update: I really do just love creating tablescapes. When I am done with a project I always leave with a smile on my face and a skip in my step. I think this one was another success!

Dinner party flowers

So obsessed with the navy china pattern.

Just like every other year, we spent our Labor Day weekend Sunday on a pontoon boat in the middle of Big Creek. It was such a nice day out too!

Big Creek

Cruisin' the open waters

And just when you thought we couldn’t squeeze any more into this three-day weekend, we went ahead and celebrated my little sister’s 24th birthday both Sunday and Monday evening. Sunday we found ourselves at a Haas favorite, Hessen Haus, for das boot, and on Monday we had a family dinner at Americana. Both are highly recommended if you are in the area!

Morgie's birthday

They say it's your birthday...

On the to do list for tomorrow – finalizing the little Bean’s first birthday invitation. We have settled on a cupcake theme, so I will also probably be making little cupcake sticks that coordinate with the invite. Better get to work, it’ll be here before we know it!

Creating ambiance

I must finish update: Okay, tomorrow is the day that they officially get done… Just seven more to crank out. Geez, I feel a little bad about the last set that will be sent out. I’m sure they think we are horrible people for taking this long to get their thank you to them. Whoops. I’m usually more on top of things.

Tonight I had the chance to relive my glory days vicariously through my niece, Mackenzie. She just started kindergarten and decided to take part in a little cheerleading camp this week, culminating in a performance before the Dowling Catholic football game this evening. Back in the day, I was the one on that field cheering for “our boys” as a varsity football cheerleader. Some very fond memories came flooding in tonight as I thought back on my time at Dowling. Good times!

Aunt Nicole and Aunt Allison (both DHS cheerleading alums) couldn't pass up the chance to strike a pose too!

Tomorrow I have agreed to help my mother-in-law out with a dinner party she is hosting in the evening. As you might already know, I love creating the perfect ambiance for any party, so I told her I would love to tackle the floral arrangements and menus for the event.

Some fancy menus for a fancy dinner.

I’ll be sure to take pics of the final decor and share them with you in the next post. Enjoy your holiday weekend!

I must finish

Another day, another dollar update: Long time no blog, eh? Isn’t it crazy how some weeks can just fly by? Well, this past week (and weekend) did just that. Marcus was traveling for work for most of it, and this weekend was jam packed.

On Friday night we went over to our friend Peter’s new rental home. We brought the wine and he cooked the meal. A whole roasted chicken that was to die for, along with a tasty salad and fresh veggies.

Pete's house

Tasty food with a great friend.

I was up at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning to head up to Minneapolis with my dad in search of a Volvo S80. Long story short, the day was a complete bust and there is a certain Volvo dealership that will never get any of my business. Only a few words can sum them up: lack of integrity! So, the car search continues…

Borton Volvo

Lies, lies and more lies!

After I arrived home a little miffed and in desperate need of a beer, I headed over to the potluck that I was late for at T.Hill. Delicious food, with even better company. I had every intention of heading down to Ingersoll Live afterwards, but you know what, I just didn’t have it in me after a day of disappointment.

Terrace Hill potluck

Much needed R&R with my in-laws and friends.

This morning I was up before to sun again to meet my parents and the bean for church, breakfast and a long walk. I can’t think of a better way to start my Sunday morning. After checking out another dealership lot and helping my sister and brother-in-law get ready to move this week, we were treated to a first-rate dinner by chef Marcus – chicken enchiladas. O-M-YUM!

Sunday morning

Dahl's on Merle Hay breakfast is tough to beat.

Chicken enchiladas

Soooo gooey and cheesy - what more could you ask for?

Which leads me to the present time where I am already in bed! It’s amazing how much a packed weekend can take out of you!

I think I will be signing off a little early in order to tackle the rest of our wedding thank you’s. I know, it’s high time that these got done, so I can move on to other projects, especially since today is exactly three months from our wedding day.

Another day, another dollar

Glitter and sparkles update: Whew, the weekends sure do go fast! Since Marcus was gone most of it, I had a lot of time for myself, and on Saturday I spent most of it with my niece, Sidney. I picked her up early and we went for a long walk. After that we figured a weekend wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the mall. But the highlight of my day was her falling asleep with me. She is just the cutest, especially when she isn’t trying to climb the stairs.

Bean is mobile

The Bean is mobile folks!

Saturday night, since my mom and sisters were in Chicago, my dad, brother-in-law, Sid and myself headed over to Saints for dinner and a cold one. That place has such a great outdoor patio and the weather was perfect!

saints

Cut those two off

Sunday started off with a trip to the grocery store and Trader Joes. I promised Marcus that I would make dinner tonight (scary, I know) so I had to pick up the ingredients and some fresh flowers.

Trader Joe's flowers

So obsessed with these glads from Trader Joe's.

Here was the menu:

Peach-Whiskey BBQ Chicken from my new fave The Pioneer Woman

Cheesy potatoes
Candy-Bar Bars from Better Homes & Garden  topped with Coffee ice cream from Trader Joe’s

Candy-bar bars

I don’t cook often, so I was a little worried about cooking for the chef a.k.a. my husband, but he was pleasantly surprised by how good everything tasted and he even said I could cook it again sometime! Success.

In between cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry I was able to paint my nails too like I had planned. I decided to go with the chunkier glitter polish, Only Gold for Me from Sephora over my own Essie BFF Best Boyfriend. So cute and fun!

Glitter Mani

A glitter mani to start the week off right.

Tomorrow starts another week – Marcus is traveling for most of it, but I’d sure like to get to another local eatery for Restaurant Week. (Hint, hint Marcus when you read this post!)

I’ll leave you tonight with this pic of me and my boys snuggled up, ready for bed and the start of a new week.

I ruff you
