Sorry for the radio silence this week, but you know, LIFE. We’ve been busy with potty training, swim lessons and smooching the mouth of a crooked-tooth babe. Hope to have more for you next week!

It’s totally random, but I heard ‘Thrift Shop’ on the radio the other day and thought to myself, “hmm, we haven’t had new Macklemore in a while.” Well, he’s back and his newest song Glorious had the cutest music video EVER featuring his 100 year old grandma.

I’m sure most of you are aware, but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale early access (for cardholders) is LIVE – the sale will open to the public on 7/21 – and it’s good! I have my eye on this elevated wine-hued sweatshirt and the perfect perforated booties. Look for an upcoming post for a full TTD FAVES rundown!

FourthofJuly42[coming soon to the Branstad garden]

Target is shaking things up again with this new announcement. Do you think that means some of the underperforming lines are on the chopping block? I fear Merona is one of them even though I own quite a bit of it…

If you are local to the area, I highly recommend checking out Table 128 Bistro + Bar’s Bounty Dinner series. Every Tuesday in July, they feature a special two-course meal celebrating the freshest offerings from our local farmers and purveyors. Special shoutout to my girl Jenny over at Dogpatch Urban Gardens who will be featured next week – July 11!

I am in full on planning mode for Fitzgerald’s first birthday party coming up in less than a month. While researching all sort of random things I came across Oh Happy Day. After falling down a very colorful rabbit hole, I realized Jordan is my spirit animal.

[hope you all have a happy + safe holiday weekend]

As we head into the long weekend, I already have visions of this festive angel food cake that I plan to make. I picked it specifically so that I could put this cake topper in it!

One of my favorite things about the Fourth is the never ending parades, carnivals and fireworks displays throughout the weekend. Growing up we always went to Urbandale’s celebration and this year the Des Moines suburb is turning 100 years old, so you know it’s going to be better than ever!

With the holiday weekend comes all sorts of online sales, but one of my favorites is happening right now through the 2nd at the LOFT – 50% off everything when you use the code SPARKLER.

Lake life faves 2017

Hammock_2017

Since we live in the “no coast” region, many Iowans spend their hot summers cooling off at local lakes around the state. We are lucky enough to have access to a lake house located just 45 minutes away from our house – Lake Panorama in Panora, Iowa.

On weekends throughout the summer, we will head up there after work on Friday and spend our time tubing, fishing and just enjoying a slower pace. Well, as slow as you can have it with two young boys + the rest of the family.

As we head into one of the busiest weekends at the lake, I thought I would round-up a few of my must haves that always make it into my overnight bag.

A little housewarming

This past weekend my sister celebrated her new digs by hosting a darling housewarming party. Located in Beaverdale, a little neighborhood in northern Des Moines known for its beautiful brick homes, my sister’s house was the perfect setting for an amazing summer night.

Since throwing parties is something I love to do, I helped out with getting the home in tip-top shape for the shindig.

I was most definitely a florist in my former life! I woke up the morning of the party and realized I needed to whip up a quick housewarming gift, and this was the result. I’m pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

These two loved hanging out in Aunt Mo’s yard and were busy checking out her grapes. Future wine makers? Their moms can only hope!Housewarming4Housewarming7Housewarming6

GrandpaHAAS[grandpas are the BEST]

I just snagged this hat yesterday from Old Navy and have a feeling I will be wearing it all Fourth of July weekend while boating on the lake. Totally reminds me of Harding-Lane but at a fraction of the cost.

If you are local, you should definitely make plans to head down to the Western Gateway Park this weekend for the annual Des Moines Arts Festival. I checked out the artist bios already and can’t wait to see Cat Tesla and Jodi Perry in person.

I’m really loving pretty much everything from Sunnylife these days – especially all of their Fourth of July gear. I think this speaker+radio would come in quite handy poolside this summer!

Little looks: Fourth of July 2017

Happy official first day of summer! It’s hard to believe we are already over half way through June, but the days are just flying by.

One of my favorite holidays is right around the corner, the Fourth of July, so you know I’m putting together my patriotic outfits for the boys. And due to some serious oversupply, it looks like the festive frocks will be lasting a full week – if not longer. Shocking, I know.

Here is my annual round-up of all things patriotic for your littles.

Camp Branstad 2017

Another year, another successful (and crazy tiring) Camp Branstad is in the books. The campers arrived on Saturday afternoon shortly after camp counselor Marcus returned from his Canadian bear hunt full of stories for the kiddos.

We got soaked during a water balloon fight, played red rover (for like three seconds) painted canvases and scarfed down s’mores before the campers retreated to our upgraded 10-person tent. And, of course, the Camp Branstad experience wouldn’t be complete without a late-night broken glow stick freakout (complete with a frantic Google search about possibly ingestive glow stick goo) and a 5AM wake up call.

Can’t wait to do it all over again….in 364 days!
