When prom goes wrong

It’s in my head update: As I type this blog post I am sitting under the covers in my pajamas with a full on up ‘do. Not just any up ‘do my friends, but the same hairstyle that I will be wearing as I walk down the aisle in 38 short days. Wahhh!!!!! So, without further ado, I present my wedding hair:

I tried it on with my veil and reception hairpiece, but I dont want to spoil anything.

Tomorrow eve I’m heading over to my parents’ house to snag the Foto Friday pic for this week at work – and the theme is: PROM! I can not wait to dig through my high school albums for my prom pictures, which I am positive I haven’t looked at since I graduated 9 years ago. Should be a treat, and I’ll be sure to share what I find with you tomorrow.

Check out these horrific prom photos. If you ever need a laugh, just Google “bad prom pictures” and it will provide you countless hours of fun!

It’s in my head

Forgetful much? update: Got the head back on straight – well, as straight as it’s going to be for these last 39 days. Today was our RSVP deadline date for the wedding, and wouldn’t you guess it – we still have about 170 people who haven’t responded. I should not be shocked by this, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t rile me up a bit. This is my bridezilla moment.

Here is the weekend montage that I wasn’t able to post yesterday – good times:

Couples Shower montageTomorrow is my wedding hair trial and I’ve already shown you what I’m looking for. I’m still leaning towards that, so I am excited to see what we go with. I’ll be sure to have pictures up in tomorrow’s post. Just need to make sure I remember the veil and floral clip to try out with the ‘do.

I’m going with the traditional veil for the ceremony and a yellow floral clip for the reception, but I do love seeing these other more modern headpieces that brides are sporting these days.

Forgetful much?

Just the two of us update: Another jam-packed weekend o’ fun. And wouldn’t you guess it, I left my camera over at my sister’s house earlier tonight so I don’t have any of my photos to share with you. So I think I’m just going to keep this post short and sweet…the pics will be up tomorrow. A little hint – we were SHOWERED with beautiful gifts and had a great time with our family and friends!

Right now I am printing our rehearsal dinner invitations, so I will share those with you tomorrow as well.

DON'T FORGET!!!!

My tomorrow’s to do is to make sure to screw my head on tighter!!

Just the two of us

Go Cubs Go update: Well, they didn’t go actually. After raining literally all day long, the game was postponed and will now be played in June. Hopefully the weather will feel like coordinating then. So instead, Karl and I stayed in and snuggled under the down comforter while catching up on reality TV nonsense.

Earlier today Marcus and I had our second Friday lunch date in a row – and both times we visited one of our faves, Lucca. They just started making homemade pasta again and it is out of this world – highly recommend!

Lucca pastaIt’s shower (not just the rain kind) mania around here, and tomorrow we have another couples shower with Marcus’ side of the family and his parents’ friends. I have the hostess gifts ready and my dress picked out, so I’m all ready to go.

I love the idea of doing a few couples showers instead of all bridal because I don’t relish all the attention. While I was online surfing wedding and party planning blogs the other day, I came across this super fun LumberJack and Jill couples shower. How much fun would this be?!

Go Cubs Go

I saw the sign update: I just got home from my parents house where I entered all of our RSVPs – we have only heard back from about half of our guests so far. I’m getting a little anxious because there are few NOs and even fewer actual RSVPs and our deadline date is next week Monday. Any brides out there know how much of a grace period you should give your guests? I’m thinking a week before we start the annoying calls.

Anywho, while I was there I got to spend some time with the Bean since she was still hanging out with Grandma. We had a little photo sesh.

Im such a proud aunt!

I also put in an order for two of these. They will be perfect to direct guests towards the bathrooms – and also reusable.

Weather permitting, tomorrow is the Iowa Cubs first home game and Marcus and I are planning on attending to show support for his dad, who is throwing out the first pitch. Growing up here I can recall countless games that our dad would take us to at then Sec Taylor Ballpark. Now Principal Park, the diamond still has some of the best post-game fireworks shows around and the beer is always cold. They also have a great promotional schedule. I can’t wait to get my first hot dog of the season! Here is their schedule – hope you can make it out to a game this summer!

Calypso St. Barth update: I don’t really have an update per say about the new collabo – but I will say that I’m eyeing the embroidered ruffle dress in navy. Ca-ute! I’m sure I’ll have to hit Target after work on the 1st in order to snag that. Or possibly even send my mom to check it out when they open in the morning.

Tonight I worked on packaging my hostess gifts for the couples shower we have this weekend at Terrace Hill. Marcus’ sister, grandma, mom and a few of her sisters will be the hostesses this time around, and I can’t wait to give them their kitchen themed gifts.

Gotta stick with the wedding colors for all packaging.

Tomorrow I am making a pit stop over at my parents’ house after work to check on our RSVPs and enter the answers into our massive excel sheet. All I keep hearing from my mom is that there are very few regrets…yikes! I am also going to look into some sort of signage for the reception – mostly to point guests in the correct direction to the tent and from the tent to the restrooms. I am looking for something cute and not too tacky. Here’s what I had in mind:

I got Pierced update: It has started. Within the past couple of days we have been receiving brown packages on our front door step, and you know what that means – registry gifts. I know we picked these things out, but it’s still like Christmas in April for me. Today’s pile is from Pottery Barn and here’s what we got:

It's like Christmas came early!

I got a hot tip from my sister Morgan (check out her blog: Drawn from Fashion) today that a new Target collab is a-brewin’. You know I love a good high-low combo so I was totally jazzed to hear about this gem – Calypso St. Barth for Target. With a release in stores of May 1, this collection comes just in time for our honeymoon trip to Antigua. LOVE IT! Here is the lookbook for the entire line.

Map it out update: I really dropped the ball on this one. Marcus and I sat down to finish watching Mildred Pierce and I must admit, I’m just not in the mood to work on the map tonight. I hardly put things off, but tonight I’m making an exception.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check out the five-part remake of the 1945 movie with the same name featuring Joan Crawford. I’m a big fan of HBO miniseries, and enjoyed this peek into a Depression-era family that has been torn apart and remained that way.

I’m pretty sure Kate Winslet will win an Emmy for her portrayal of Mildred Pierce, but my favorite part was checking out all the outfits the women wore. Here is a great little write-up from Harper’s Bazaar about the costume designer for the show, Ann Roth.

mildred pierce costumesTomorrow I will try to get back on task with the wedding reception parking maps. As you can see from above, I have good reason for getting consumed with Mildred (Winslet) and Veda (Evan Rachel Wood).

Makeup by M.A.C. update: What a jam-packed weekend! It started off with my wedding makeup trial on Saturday morning. My M.A.C. face courtesy of Corina was beautiful with just the right amount of drama and I know when paired with my wedding gown it’s going to be perfect!

On Saturday night we had our first of many showers. Marcus’ brother and sister-in-law hosted a stock the cellar soiree in honor of us and I can’t begin to express how much fun we had just being with our closest friends sipping on wine the entire evening. Good times had by all!

Thanks Eric and Adrianne!

We spent most of today vegging out, but I did get one set of the boards almost done. Just need to paint on the tigerhawk in the yellow section. Then it’s on to the next set which will be covered with our wedding logo.

All in all – a pretty decent weekend.

Tomorrow I really need to sit down and get to work on my wedding reception parking map that I am going to put on the back of the ceremony programs. Check out these wedding maps – so unique and fun.
