October already?

Prost update: The whirlwind weekend is over and I have some great photos to share with you! Up first, Oktoberfest on Saturday night. And, yes, we did do the flying dutchman!

Oktoberfest 2012

On Sunday the main event, Sidney Street, was finally here! I was so happy with how everything turned out. Love my little Bean and can’t believe she is two today!

Tomorrow night I have a walk through of Terrace Hill with my decor committee to finalize plans for Scare-Us-Hill Pumpkin Ball. I’m getting excited about the event, while still having major anxiety at the same time. Can you believe it’s October already?!

Fall-ified update: This week I’m going to grab a few gourds and pumpkins and go to town. But to really kick-off fall, I decided to treat myself to this little gem from Lands’ End.

Lands End monogrammed vest

It’s their Friends and Family sale right now, and the vest was already on sale to start with. You know I had to add the monogram for that extra touch of personalization! I can’t wait to  get this in the mail.

This weekend I’ll be putting on my lederhosen and heading downtown to enjoy Oktoberfest with my family. German biers, polka dancing and doughy pretzels? Sign me up!

Fall-ified

Paper person update: Picked up some great swag from the paper show the other day along with taking in a presentation about the benefits of using paper. The campaign is called Paper Because and below is a very fitting video for this blog:

On the to-do list for the rest of the week: Fall-ify (yep, just made that one up) the house. I’m loving these great autumn mantel ideas. Do you decorate for Fall?

Pumpkin spice update:I had such a great weekend that I didn’t want it to end. On Saturday we watched our 3-year-old niece overnight and had such a great time. Karl especially loved having a new friend around the house.

Bridgie's overnight

Us middle children have to stick together.

We were up to watch cartoons early Sunday morning and then it was time for Uncle Markie to make his famous nannerpuss pancakes for my other niece who celebrated her 2nd birthday last week. So many girls!!!

After all the craziness subsided, I lit one of my favorite fall candles and got to work on a few items for the Sidney Street party next weekend. I’m loving how everything is turning out so far! What do you think?

I’m obsessed with the Burt bags.

On my to-do list for tomorrow: attend the Field Paper Show for work (and play). It’s nice to be in-the-know with regards to paper for some of my personal projects as well since I’d much rather send hard invites instead of evites.

Love me some paper.

I do have to say that if I did send out an electronic invite you best believe it’d be coming from Paperless Post. They have uber-chic, unique designs including the newly released and  oh-so-fab Kate Spade line. Check it out!

Morgie’s meal update: Luna Bistro, why are you so darn good?! Can I move into the building so I could devour your food morning, day and night? Another delish meal hit the table tonight (no surprise here) and I can’t say enough how much I love this place.

Run, don't walk people.

Also, just wanted to make a note here that tickets are now on sale for Scare-Us-Hill Pumpkin Ball at Terrace Hill on Halloween night.

Scare Us Hill Save the Date TGIF tomorrow, am I right? The weekend ahead is looking to be quite crisp – possibly even a frost in sight – so it makes sense that all I can think about these days is pumpkin spice anything, boots and coats. And since fall officially starts Saturday, here is my ideal outfit that incorporates all of these things. Have a great weekend everyone!

Takin’ it to the (Sidney) Street update: I think I’ve got it all covered. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

I had recently come across this article in the Des Moines Register and thought to myself “what a great idea”, so the other night I whipped up a batch of Iowa Girl Eats’ frozen breakfast burritos. I tried one out this morning as I was running out the door and they were amazing – highly recommend this on-the-go breakfast option.

Tomorrow we are finally celebrating my little sis Morgan’s birthday with a family dinner at my favorite dinner spot, Luna Bistro. I am secretly hoping they have their fall menu already in action, but I doubt that since fall doesn’t officially start until this Saturday. Here’s to hoping!

Takin’ it to the (Sidney) Street

Leave it to Beaver-dale update: The weekend again has passed me by and I am back to the daily grind. Hanging around my grade school stomping grounds was a lot of fun on Saturday and I’m already looking forward to next year’s Fall Fest.

My Sunday was spent running errands with my family and playing with the kiddos at Chuck E. Cheese for Alexis’ birthday party. Check out that Cookie Monster cake!

This week I want to finish up designing and printing the ephemera for the Sidney Street party. Here are a few of the things I’ve got so far:

Leave it to Beaver-dale

John + Hill update: That was truly the most unique wedding I’ve ever been to. I knew it was going to be good – and I was right. Relive the night with me via some epic photos:

John + Hill Wedding

So cool they even had their own neon sign.

I have been going to the Beaverdale Fall Festival for as long as I can remember. (Check out my fave photos from last year!) As a kid I danced in the parade for Van Cleve and even entered a talent competition or two (there’s video proof!). So it should come as no surprise that I am like a kid the night before Christmas right now. I love this festival! Starting with the early morning set-up on our friend’s front lawn complete with mimosas, bagels and coffee, and ending with a game or two of bingo in my alma mater’s gym and one of Dutch Welter’s egg rolls. Head here for the full schedule – hope to see you there!

John + Hill

Oh what a spooky sight update: I was asked to put together a little write-up about what the decor and feeling will be at the Scare-Us-Hill Pumpkin Ball for a press release, and this is what I came up with:

“As the sun sets on Halloween and ghosts and goblins come out to play, expect the stately manor of Terrace Hill to be transformed for Scare-Us-Hill Pumpkin Ball. Gilded chandeliers give way to cobwebs and the occasional surprise. And as the lights get turned low, the mansion’s true inhabitants come to life.”

Let the stressing begin!

Here’s what I’m thinking…

Tomorrow we are off to our 8th (!!) wedding of the year and I know we are in for a treat. The insanely creative couple (John + Hillary) brought us this save the date and this invitation, and I know that their wedding ceremony and reception are going to be just as good. I can’t wait to share photos with you and celebrate their day with them.

Oh what a spooky sight

Iowa super bowl update: What a rough weekend. Saturday I witnessed yet another Hawkeye loss to Iowa State and on Sunday I was down for the count with some sort of bug. I’m pretty sure I could still use another day to get back into the swing of things.

Hawks go down

It was a good time minus the fact that our team lost.

I am so excited to share this next bit of insider info with my fellow Des Moines (and Halloween) lovin’ peeps. Terrace Hill will be opening up its doors and inviting in costumed creatures for their first ever Scare-Us-Hill Pumpkin Ball on Halloween night. And get this, yours truly is in charge of turning this stately manor into a creepy, spider-webby, spirits-around-any-corner haunted house for the historic event.

So on my to do list until October 31st: scour Pinterest, websites and blogs for any and all spooky decor ideas that I can make come to life in the Victorian manse.
