Numbers game

Final shower update: The final shower was a hit and my hostess (ahem, MOM) did a great job getting everything together.

Bridal shower

This morning my sisters and I got up at the crack of dawn to make sure that we were at Target when it opened at 8AM so that we could snag items from the Calypso St. Barth line. Here are the pieces I picked up that’ll be perfect for our honeymoon in Antigua.

Calypso St. Barth for TargetTomorrow I continue my quest to finalize the guest list and get those last 30 people to RSVP. Wish me luck! Then it’s on to placing people at tables. Luckily, we are under our “target” number, so we’ll be able to actually get rid of a few tables. Whew! The madness continues…

Final shower

Wills and Kate update: Thank God I got up at 4:30 AM to watch the royal event live. It was just as magical and special as I thought it would be, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up a bit on several different occasions. Such a beautiful ceremony and I just loved when Kate finally got to the altar and Will told her she looked beautiful – SWOON!

Watching the royal wedding only made me more excited for our own big day. And a constant reminder that the day is coming up soon can be seen in the amount of boxes we have piled up on our front door step day after day. Within the last couple of days we received a rice cooker, a set of white wine glasses and my first set of the Kate Spade china!

registry giftsI came home the other day to this gift from my fiance. He was out and about and saw these and picked them up for me because they are our wedding colors – how sweet!

Tomorrow is my final wedding shower and it’s being held at my parents house. It’s your typical bridal brunch with just ladies. Bring on the mimosas! After being up so early this morning I better hit the hay soon if I’m going to be ready for all that chatting and gift opening. Pics of it all on Sunday’s post.

At the one month mark I have down on my to do list to send out the rehearsal dinner invitations, which I addressed tonight. They are all lined up and ready to be tossed into the mailbox for pick up.

I designed our invites with our Iowa theme in mind and kept them in the same color palate as the rest of the invitation suite.

DJ turn it up, up, up…

Honeysuckle update: I decided that I would run a few errands after work and Pilates today and I ended up at Trader Joe’s. Man, I love that store! I snagged some beautiful tulips in our favorite Pantone color – honeysuckle.

Our final DJ set list is due tomorrow and I still have a few last-minute additions that I need to get on there. We are using KnightLife DJs here in Iowa and I know that they are going to do a great job. Everything is digitized these days so we get to pick songs we definitely want played, songs that we would like played and also songs that under no circumstance should be played (ahem, the Macarena!)

According to our DJ, these are the top 20 wedding reception songs over the past 12 months:

Overdosed on Easter update: It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep can do for you. I am BACK people and ready to share the pics from this weekend’s events.

First, I forgot to share this “moment” with you last Friday. Marcus didn’t really want to take this picture, but I made him.

Getting our marriage license

We are on our way to making it official...

Bridget’s Olivia themed birthday party at the zoo was a success as is shown in the pictures below. Such cute kids!

Easter eve dinner is a Branstad tradition that always includes lamb and risotto, and this year we did racks instead of a leg. YUM!

Lamb for Easter eve

On Easter Sunday we split time between the two families. Check out my sweet Easter basket! My grandpa made it for me when I was little, and it is a great memento of him and his love for crafts and woodwork. He is who I got my craftiness from. I also made the “Easter bunny” hide the baskets this year like he used to do when we were little. It took my forever to find mine because the bunny was very sneaky and opened up one of my registry gifts that came to my parents’ house, placed it inside, and then proceeded to re-seal it with tape. Pretty good one, huh?

Easter Sunday

And like I told you yesterday, we totally crashed as soon as we got home last night. Look at my two boys.

Our local newspaper, the Des Moines Register, recently ran a story on Pantone’s color of the year for 2011, Honeysuckle. The color is said to be encouraging and uplifting and I can agree with that.

Right after I saw the article I wanted to run out and buy something summer-y, cute and honeysuckle-y – just like all of these fabulous finds over at Kate Spade:

Overdosed on Easter

Zoobilee zoo update: Family fun time weekend has come to a close and I am currently sitting on my couch in my pajamas in a food induced coma watching all of our DVR’d shows from the past couple of weeks. There is a good to quite good chance that a blog post is not happening tonight due to the large amounts of ham, potatoes, 5-year aged gouda and peanut butter filled chocolate eggs I consumed today.

You can find me at the gym for over an hour tomorrow afternoon in order to work this Easter weekend off of my mid-section. Until then…hope you had a HOPPY EASTER!

Not your grandmother’s china

The Bridguation turns 2 update: Well, she made it folks! Bridget Branstad is two years old. The sloppy joes were de-lish and the birthday girl was sporting some super cute pigtails.

Bridget's BirthdayTomorrow over our lunch break, Marcus and I are heading down to the Polk County Administration building to get our marriage license. Yep, it’s all happening and my sister Morgan is coming along to be our witness. So exciting!!!

To treat myself, I have decided to use some of our Younkers gift cards to purchase a set of the china we registered for. Earlier today I was stalking my registry when I noticed that someone by the name of “Easter bunny” purchased my first set of china from Younkers. I can’t wait to have all of it – I went with Kate Spade’s Union Street pattern and I love it!

I am pro-China sets, and here are a few of my faves out there right now (well, other than the one I put on our registry):

Ralph Lauren Mandarin Blue

The Bridguation turns 2

When prom goes wrong update: I thought I would be digging for years in my parents’ basement tonight, but the prom Gods were smiling down on me because in the first bin that I opened, right on top was my senior prom picture. SCORE! And here she is:

Senior promTomorrow we are celebrating Marcus’ niece’s birthday. The Bridguation (as her parents lovingly refer to her as) is celebrating her 2nd birthday. And how do two-year-olds celebrate their birthdays these days, by having their favorite meal served for all. Luckily, Bridget has great taste and we will be feasting on sloppy joes and peas. You gotta love it!

I found the perfect gift for little Bridge at the local Marshall’s – LOVE that store! They are going to be soooo cute on her.
