HotChocolate[good to the last drop // hot chocolate at La Mie]

I came across this article last week that enticed a great conversation about original and copycat artists.

The Starbucks 2017 holiday cup design leaked on Reddit this week and people are already freaking out. What do you think? Do you like it?

I am in the midst of starting our packing plan for an upcoming trip to China so I was (Wit &) Delighted (HAR HAR) to finally see this luggage collab hit shelves this week. Here are a few of my faves: three packing cubes, fun luggage stickers, sage carry-on suitcase and darling luggage tags.

Anthropologie holiday has dropped…RUN!

One of my favorite paper companies, Sugar Paper,  is back with their annual Christmas collab with Target. Here is a sneak peek at what should be showing up in stores soon!

Heading out today for a much needed birthday weekend girls trip with my mom and sisters. If you feel like tagging along, check out my Instagram stories!

[a must see: Drawing in Space at the Des Moines Art Center]

I’m a huge Grinch fan (especially the Jim Carey version) and when I received an email from my sister this week with a link to these Hanna Andersson pajamas I about lost it. You know I love matching family pajamas, and these just might be a winner for this year!

As a mom I’m always multi-tasking. Changing diapers while singing Wheels on the Bus and defusing a toddler meltdown? All in a days work. So when I need to unwind at night, but am torn between getting in a uninterrupted shower or enjoying a nice glass of wine, it should come as no surprise that I’d want to multi-task this too! Enter this little gadget.

At the annual HighEdWeb conference I attended last week, we had a few keynote speakers, one of which was Tatjana Dzambazova. During her presentation she spoke about 3-D printing and I was amazed at how much the technology had advanced over the past few years. Of particular interest to me was her mention of The Next Rembrandt project. So fascinating!

DISCLAIMER: This post really shouldn’t be a surprise for most of you who know me.

Hello, my name is Nicole and I have an unhealthy obsession with buffalo plaid.

I have this Instagram photo saved permanently on my phone. I dream of remodeling my master bath one day with this tile. And I can’t get enough of this amazing peel & stick wallpaper.

Basically what I’m saying is that this rustic-lovin’ mama adores this geometric pattern and I want to share all of my favorites with you so you can become obsessed too!

I spent the first half of this week at the HighEdWeb conference in Hartford, Connecticut. While there I enjoyed great discussions about higher education, insight into digital marketing advances and uninterrupted showers. It was glorious.

Oh, and I also got a new fancy headshot.

Now, on to my Friday faves…

Snagged the perfect sweatshirt (ON SALE!) from Madewell earlier this week. It was just what I needed to keep me cozy on my post-conference flights home.

The level of excitement that I had upon reviewing the Chip and Jo Gaines + Target collab (Hearth & Hand) lookbook is kind of scary. I can’t wait until November 5 to get ahold of some of that rustic farmhouse goodness. And don’t even get me started on those matching plaid pajamas. Consider those already ‘carted’.

What is October without a little HOCUS POCUS?! Easily my favorite Halloween movie of all time, the Sanderson sisters are near and dear to my heart.

So it is fitting that I concocted this free 8×10 printable for you based upon my love for all things magical and Halloween-y with just a touch of movie geekdom. ENJOY!

TheLocust[the most delicious cocktail from The Republic on Grand]

While we were in Chicago this past weekend I got to slip into Crate&Barrel for literally five minutes to grab the cutest Halloween plates and tumblers for the boys. If I would’ve had more time I would have tracked down this darling Christmas dish towel and these perfect little snowmen hot cocoa mugs.

Yes, I am already doing my Christmas shopping. It definitely makes things easier come December! Having said that, one of my local faves, Bannor Toys, just released their stocking stuffers at the beginning of this week and they are perfect! Act quick, because they won’t last long.

So, I have a dream. This dream is to renovate our master bathroom and replace the flooring with tile in a pattern: black, white and gray buffalo plaid. Just take a look at the inspo post. I’m in love.

Also, I’m traveling to Hartford, Connecticut soon and would love any/all recommendations that you have! Especially food and drink related 🙂

Quick trip to Chicago

This past weekend we decided to make the trek into the Windy City with another family to attend a June & January event at The Land of Nod.

We loaded up the car and got outta dodge early Saturday morning and I will admit, it was an aggressive timeline with two young children. We arrived around one o’clock and hit the ground running with a trip to the city’s completely FREE zoo in Lincoln Park.

Chicago201701Chicago201702After letting the kids run around for a bit we ventured down to our hotel. After having spent seven years living in Chicago, I forgot how crazy downtown can be. We valeted the cars and unloaded our gear into shoebox size rooms – a little hotel bed jumping may have happened…Chicago201704Chicago201705After we unpacked ALL THE THINGS (traveling with children is no joke) we hit the streets. And again were reminded how traveling with young children in a busy city is very difficult. Especially when your child (I’m looking at you Ev) is a bit of a runner.Chicago201706We made a stop into Eataly just down the street from our hotel to browse. Again, amazing store but not exactly toddler/baby friendly. Marcus and I joke later on that night that we both could have stayed in that store all day just eating and drinking.Chicago201707
After quite a rough night (Everett fell out of the bed and kicked me in the back more times than I can remember), the boys sported their skeleton jammies down at the free breakfast. Nothing like scarfin’ down some free food before the rest of the world is up…Chicago201708Chicago201709After getting ready, we headed to the event and I have to say, even though Everett didn’t want to fully cooperate with me – mask issues, no hat or tie) I’d say he still looked pretty darn cute. If it wasn’t obvious (HA) he was supposed to be Hamburglar and Fitzie was the cutest little cheeseburger ever. Our friends’ daughters dressed up like Minnie Mouse.Chicago201712Chicago201710The photo above is of the aforementioned ‘runner’ comment. Doesn’t matter if he is indoors or outdoors…

Guys, how amazing is this little costume?! My mom is a magician and whipped this up for me. Ugh, she’s the absolute best!Chicago201713After the event we were thoroughly exhausted, so we hightailed it out of the city and decided to stop in Naperville for lunch. I did a quick Google search for local restaurants and happened to find Two Brothers Brewery. The adults had a much needed craft brew while the kids enjoyed using forks to pick up crayons. The food was top notch too!

Chicago201711After lunch, we hopped back into our cars to drive home and complete our crazy, less than 48 hours, round-trip. And obviously we couldn’t drive past the world’s largest truck stop without a leg-stretch session…Chicago201715Chicago201716

All in all, we are still tired (and it’s Wednesday) but had a good time. But there is good chance we won’t be heading back into the city for a few years with the boys in tow.

Little looks: Halloween jammies 2017

With less than a month to go, it was high time I bust out my Halloween jammie round-up for the year. The boys have been sporting their matching skeleton one-piece pajamas for over a month now (eek!) and it’s pretty much the cutest thing ever!

I may or may not already have their Christmas jammies (well, one pair) already locked in 😉 #sorrynotsorry
