Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano

Black Beauties Update: So my sister, Marissa, my mom and I braved the cold and headed to David’s Bridal this eve. She tried on the bridesmaid dress and looked GREAT! Her post-pregnancy bod fit into a size smaller than she thought she’d be wearing for the wedding. I can only hope that I have a few of those genes in me too!

Listen up frugal brides, David’s Bridal has landed the gown guru, Vera Wang, to design a collection of dresses for their customers that is scheduled to hit select stores this upcoming February. While in the Des Moines location tonight I asked about when they’d expect a shipment, and the sales woman told me that as of now their store hadn’t been chosen to receive any of Vera’s dresses. Sad face for us Iowans, but here are a few of my fave looks from the upcoming (and I’m sure sold out) White by Vera Wang collection.

‘Tis the season to get together with friends and enjoy good food…at least that is what’s on the to-do list for tomorrow evening. Marcus (my fiance) and I love to visit local restaurants as often as we possibly can, so we suggested a dinner outing with a few close friends. Our only problem is picking which restaurant we want to go to. With so many great “Des Moines only” joints, we often have a hard time choosing.

After much discussion, we have decided on Lucca in the East Village. We have dined there before, so I already know what to expect – exposed brick walls, great piano man up front, and de-lish italian food from chef and owner Steve Logsdon. Can’t wait to see what is on their seasonal menu this time around!

If you plan on dining at Lucca, hit up the East Village early and get in a little shopping before dinner at some of my favorite spots:

Domestica, 321 E. Walnut

AllSpice, 400 E. Locust

Black Beauties

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s to-do list, and it looks like I’ll be making a visit to David’s Bridal shop with my sister to have her try on her bridesmaid dress.

As a bride I wanted to keep the bridesmaid dresses affordable, stylish and most importantly, re-wearable! Worst thing you could do is make one of your friends or family members drop a pretty penny on a not so pretty dress that they’ll only wear for one day.

I knew I wanted them in a short, black a-line (read: classy & timeless)dress, so here is what we are going with:

David's Bridal, Short Cotton Y-Neck Dress, $135

Here are a few other affordable LBDs perfect for bridesmaids (or yourself) that I came across while doing my searching:

Alfred Sung by Dessy, Sleeveless Ruffle Neck, $150

Alex Evenings, Brocade Sheath Dress, $81.90

Maggy London, Side Bow Stretch Satin Dress, $98

Hello bloggers and bloggerettes!

One thing that has always been on my ‘To-Do’ list was to create a blog…so here goes nothing! Plan is to figure things out as I go along, so things might start off a little rough (so don’t complain I didn’t warn you!).

I will try to post every day something that I have put on my To-Do list for the following day. I’ll go into detail about what the task is, and in the following day’s post give an update about completing (or not completing) said task.

Hope you enjoy!
